RAISING CHICKENS,
KIDS & A LITTLE
bit of chaos
Rainbow laying hens. Cute coops. Fresh eggs. Backyard chaos.
Feather, Flour, & Friends helps families in the DFW area start their own backyard chicken journey without the stress of raising baby chicks or figuring everything out alone.
We raise colorful egg-laying hens, build beginner-friendly coop setups, and share the real-life adventure of suburban homesteading — the good, the messy, and the “why is there dirt in my kitchen again?” moments.

Cozy Homesteading
Without the Pretending

Let’s just get this out of the way…
This is NOT one of those perfect homestead websites where someone milks goats at sunrise wearing linen while sourdough magically rises in the background.
Around here:
-
the kids are usually barefoot
-
the kitchen is rarely spotless
-
I love Jesus but cuss a little
-
and there’s a very good chance I’m starting another project I probably don’t have time for.
We're learning as we go over here.
No perfection required.
Feather, Flour, & Friends is our little corner of the internet where we share:
-
backyard chickens
-
gardening wins & failures
-
sourdough adventures
-
recipes
-
canning experiments
-
family life
-
faith
-
hosting
-
and all the beautiful chaos in between
Backyard Chicken Packages
Made Simple

RAINBOW EGG-LAYING HENS
You shouldn’t need a farming degree and twelve YouTube tabs open just to start backyard chickens.
We make it simple, beginner-friendly, and honestly… way more fun.
Friendly breeds that lay beautiful blue, olive, cream, brown, and speckled eggs — because boring white eggs just aren’t our personality.

MORE THAN
Fresh Eggs

Sure… the eggs are amazing.
But backyard chickens become something bigger than that.
-
They slow you down.
-
They get your kids outside.
-
They make mornings feel softer.
-
They reconnect you to simple things.
-
You start noticing sunsets more.
-
You care about your garden more.
-
You spend more time outside.
-
You laugh more.
And somehow…
watching chickens chase blueberries around the yard becomes free therapy.
Backyard chickens are the gateway drug to homesteading.
Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Are chickens loud?
Not really! Hens are pretty quiet overall. Roosters, however, are basically tiny farm alarm clocks with zero respect for sleeping in.
Do chickens smell?
A clean coop shouldn’t smell bad. We’ll help teach you simple maintenance so your backyard doesn’t smell like a petting zoo.
Are backyard chickens good for kids?
Absolutely. Kids LOVE helping collect eggs, feed chickens, and naming them ridiculous things like “Princess Nugget.”
What about predators?
We’ll guide you on safe coop setups and predator protection so your flock stays secure.
Can I have chickens in an HOA neighborhood?
Many neighborhoods allow hens with certain rules. We always recommend checking local city and HOA guidelines first.
Is this beginner friendly?
YES. This whole brand exists because starting chickens can feel overwhelming and intimidating. We’re here to simplify it and make it fun.
