Why My Chickens Know More About Grace Than Most People

If you've ever owned chickens, you know they're not exactly theological scholars.

They'll eat things they shouldn't.

Run where they shouldn't.

Scream over absolutely nothing. And somehow find themselves in trouble before you've even had your morning coffee.

Honestly?

They're a lot like us.

The other morning I walked outside carrying a bucket of treats. Before I could even open the gate, my hens came barreling across the yard like I was handing out free concert tickets.

One of them—the same chicken who pecks everyone else and routinely makes poor life choices—was front and center.

And as I stood there laughing, I felt God nudge my heart.

Isn't that us?

We mess up.We wander. We make mistakes. We ignore wisdom. We try doing things our own way.

Yet every morning, God's grace shows up again.

No lecture.No scorecard.No "I told you so."

Just grace.

Fresh and waiting.

As a mom, I understand this more every year.

My children aren't perfect. They make mistakes. They forget things. Sometimes they test every ounce of patience I possess.

But my love for them isn't based on performance.

And neither is God's love for us.

Maybe that's why I love my chickens so much.

Not because they're smart.

Definitely not because they're graceful.

But because every day they remind me of how much grace we've all been given.

And if God can keep loving a stubborn chicken owner like me, there's probably hope for all of us.
